You’re driving down the road and all of a sudden you notice something is a little off. Your vehicle starts to shimmy and shake, it’s a little harder to steer, and there is a slight up and down motion to your car. Pull over! You have a flat tire.
Driving on a flat tire can seriously damage your wheels. Wheels are not meant to take the weight of your vehicle. If you drive on a flat tire you might have to replace your wheel as well. Don’t drive any longer than you have to, just get out of the flow of traffic and park in the most level place you can.
After you notice a flat and have gotten your vehicle safely out of the flow of traffic you should examine the tire to see what is the best way to fix it if you can. Just a tiny hole can cause a tire to lose air, you may not even realize what caused the flat.
Examine the tread for cracks or breaks. Sometimes tires just give out because they are worn down. You should always inspect your tires to avoid flats. Examine your tire pressure, tread, and side walls for excessive wear and foreign objects on a regular basis. It is more convenient to find the issue before a flat so you can have your tire repaired before getting stuck on the side of the road.
A small hole can easily be fixed with a plug and then patched at your local auto shop. Having a plug kit, jack, fix a flat, and a spare tire is always a good idea. Without at least some of these tools, you will have to call for help if you get a flat tire.
Once you get patched up enough to get moving drive slow and make sure to have your tire fixed properly. Here at RoadMart we offer quality tire repairs and would be glad to help you get your tire fixed properly. The next time you get a flat, remember all these tips to minimize the damage to your vehicle and hopefully catch that flat before you get stuck.
